My family raised me to appreciate the Jewish tradition, as thoroughly as possible for an American girl growing up in the 1970s and 80s. I remember celebrating Passover with my family. One year at the age of 14, I was responsible for reading the "Haggadah." The small green booklet helped explain the various parts of the Passover Seder plate. While reading about the precious Seder, two questions stirred in my heart. Is there a God and if so, who is He ?

Within seconds of asking "Is there a God," I knew the answer was yes. However, I needed four more years before discovering the answer to "Who is God." During high school, Christians guided me to read the Bible and they answered my questions.

Although presented with the opportunity to believe in Jesus in high school, I chose not to because I wasn’t sure it would be possible to devote my life to Him.

During my first year in college I noticed something different about one of my volleyball teammates. On the way back to our dorm one night I told her there was something different about her. She said, "That’s Jesus in me." Her life reflected peace and a confidence that no other player had. We studied the Bible together and six months later, in 1990, my friend asked me if I wanted to receive Jesus as Savior. I did, then, instantly the fear hit me, "What would my dad think ?"

 Pray that God will give courage to Jewish people to respond to the call of their Messiah. (Continued tomorrow)

Romans 1:9-10

"God...is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times ; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you."

Imagine how busy Paul must have been. He was a premier missionary, a spokesman for the Church, and a frequent traveler. He must have had many things to pray about, not the least of which would have been his own health and protection in the midst of persecution and prison. But his praying didn’t stop with his own concerns. He prayed for the churches he had planted as well as the ones he hadn’t planted. Even more significantly, he prayed for "people he had never seen." One of the purposes of this Global Prayer Digest is to help you to pray for people you have never seen-the world’s unreached peoples.

  Pray that some who read this prayer guide will also, like Paul, be led of God to go as missionaries to these people.
