A summit of the main countries and institutions concerned by the financial crisis is taking on 15 November 2008 in Washington.

The summit, preceded by the meeting of the G20 finance ministers in São Paulo (8-9 November 2008), will bring together the G20 Heads of State and Government, the United Nations Secretary-General, the Managing Director of the IMF, the President of the European Commission and the President of the Financial Stability Forum.

Programme:

 Friday, 14 November (White House):

President Bush will host an opening dinner for the delegation heads at 19:00.

 Saturday, 15 November (National Building Museum):

After the official photo at 9:15, the summit will start at 09:20 and include two morning sessions, following by a working lunch attended by the Heads of State and finance ministers.

A press conference will be held after the discussions at 15:00.

Topics:

The discussions of the Heads of State and Government will be dedicated to the reform of the international financial system:

1 – Improvement of financial regulations and surveillance by the adoption of specific decisions applicable in the very short term;

2 – Reform of international financial institutions, in particular the strengthening of the IMF’s role;

3 – Agenda of forthcoming summits with a view to a deep reform of global economic and financial governance.
