A twelve-year-old female Christian girl was accused of stealing gold ornaments by her Muslim master after he learned that she wanted to quit her job.

According to Sharing Life Ministry Pakistan (SLMP), the girl in question is Anum, a daughter of Ashraf Masih, who lives in Model Town, 2 Walton Road, Lahore. Anum has five sisters, two of whom work as domestic servants in the homes of Muslims.

According to the facts collected by SLMP team, Anum started her job at the home of a Muslim last year for a monthly payment of 1700 Pakistani rupees ($20.0472 USD).

The ministry’s news release said that the problem for Anum arose after she told the man’s wife that she wanted to leave her job. It was then that it was alleged by SLMP that the man accused his Christian minor servant of stealing gold ornaments.

The young Christian girl told the ministry’s team that her former master had allegedly threatened her saying that he would have her arrested if she did not return to work.

“This is very painful for me to be under the threat of arrest,” she was quoted by SLMP as saying. “My master was not kind to me.

“I have been falsely accused of stealing gold ornaments. I had to do an awful lot of work there. I had to clean their toilets, clean rooms, wash clothes and take care of their children.

“It was very difficult for me to do all the work while the mistress was very harsh to me. She would keep grumbling and insulting me for no reason. That was difficult for me to bear so I decided to leave the job.”

The minor further told SLMP that the man’s family members “tortured” her and put pressure on her to continue to work at their house.

“They also threatened me that if I refused them, they would hand me over to the police and implicate me in a theft case,” she was quoted as saying. “I don’t want to go in prison. I have not done anything wrong. Please help me and pray for me that God may protect me from an undeserved arrest.”

SLMP has urged all friends and prayer partners to pray for “the protection of Anum from unlawful arrest.”
